Line 1 - Retreat
Exalted: (Pluto) The steadiness to treat pulling back as a phase rather than a defeat. You can regenerate, gather yourself, and return, which gives you real emotional stability in the middle of conflict.
Detriment: (Mercury) Reading every retreat as proof of your own weakness. When stepping back feels like personal failure, the emotions get shaky, and conflict destabilises you rather than teaching you anything.
Line 2 - The Guerilla
Exalted: (Venus) An eye for the weak point and the timing to use it. You feel exactly where a conflict is soft, make contact, and withdraw before it costs you, working from a smaller position with real skill.
Detriment: (Mars) Charging in without reading the room. The move may be dramatic, but a lack of sensitivity means you blunder into conflicts that were never worth the damage, and the strike lands on nothing.
Line 3 - Allegiance
Exalted: (Neptune) A depth of feeling that can dissolve old forms through union. Whether through the ordinary bonds of life or something far larger, coming together here genuinely enriches the intimacy on both sides.
Detriment: (Pluto) Reading allegiance as submission and refusing it on principle. Sensitivity to being controlled runs so high that closeness itself starts to feel like a leash, and the intimacy gets pushed away.
Line 4 - Triumph
Exalted: (Sun) A natural, unarguable power in relationship, and the wisdom to be generous with it. Victory here comes with charity, and your emotional strength opens new horizons rather than closing them down.
Detriment: (Pluto) The same power without the brakes. When emotion runs unchecked, you conquer and purge rather than lead, and what should have been a bond becomes something the other person survives.
Line 5 - Arbitration
Exalted: (Venus) The self-control to let a higher authority settle things and to keep the peace by not engaging directly. Harmony is served, though a sensitivity this fine can also keep intimacy at arm's length.
Detriment: (Moon) Insisting you are the only fair judge of your own conflict, and only accepting a verdict when it goes your way. Other people's concerns barely register, so nothing actually gets resolved.
Line 6 - The Peacemaker
Exalted: (Mercury) The integrity to stop a conflict you could have won. You hold the emotional power to end it, and feeling for the other person is what makes you use that power to let them survive.
Detriment: (Venus) The peacemaker whose terms nobody can live with. The intent is just, but you will only end the conflict once your own conditions are met, so the peace never quite arrives.
