The Four Human Design Types

Type in Human Design is not a personality category and it is not something you pick because it sounds like you. It is determined entirely by which Centres in your chart are defined, and your chart is calculated from your birth date, time and place. Two people with opposite temperaments can be the same Type, and often are.

What Type actually describes is your aura, the field around you that other people register before anyone speaks. Each Type broadcasts something different, and each one has a Strategy that works with that broadcast rather than against it. That is the whole practical value of knowing your Type: it tells you how to enter things so you meet less resistance.

The four Types split into two groups. Generators and Manifestors are the energy Types, with a motor that gives them consistent access to their own power. Projectors and Reflectors are the non-energy Types, without a reliable internal supply, which is a fact about mechanics and not about capability.

The population figures on these pages come from The Definitive Book of Human Design, which Ra Uru Hu co-authored and which is the closest thing the system has to a canonical reference. It gives roughly 37 percent pure Generators, 33 percent Manifesting Generators, 21 percent Projectors, under 10 percent Manifestors and about 1 percent Reflectors.

Other published sources round these differently. Jovian Archive's own pages say around 35 percent each for the two kinds of Generator, just over 20 percent for Projectors, about 9 percent for Manifestors and 1 to 1.4 percent for Reflectors. The differences are small and nothing in the mechanics depends on them, but I would rather show you the range than present one set as settled fact.
