Electromagnetic: The Pull You Cannot Explain
An electromagnetic connection happens when you hold one Gate of a Channel and the other person holds the Gate at its other end, and neither of you has the full Channel on your own. Say you have Gate 34 active and the other person has Gate 20 active. Neither of you carries Channel 20-34, the Channel of Charisma, alone. Sit in the same room together and it switches on between you, and only between you. This is the connection behind a pull that feels irresistible and slightly mysterious, the sense of being drawn to someone before you have worked out why. Each of you is completing something in the other that you cannot complete by yourself, which is exactly why it can feel like chemistry rather than a decision.
Companionship: Two People, the Same Channel
Companionship happens when both people independently carry the full Channel, both Gates active on both sides. Using the same example, you would each have Gate 34 and Gate 20 defined on your own chart, before you ever met. Put the two of you together and the Channel is simply doubled. There is no puzzle being solved, because neither of you needed the other to complete anything. What this connection offers is ease and recognition, you already run that part of life the same way, and being around each other in that theme feels comfortable rather than charged. The trade off is that comfort can shade into sameness. With nothing new being completed, a Companionship connection can settle into being pleasant without ever pushing either of you anywhere you would not have gone on your own.
Dominance: One Person Carries It, the Other Absorbs It
Dominance happens when one person has the full Channel defined and the other has neither of its Gates at all. If you carry both Gate 34 and Gate 20, and the other person has neither, your side of that Channel runs consistently and theirs is naturally open there. Around you, their open Center takes in your fixed way of running that theme and can amplify it strongly, sometimes so strongly that they mistake it for something naturally their own, at least while they are near you. Away from you, it tends to fade. This is one directional, you are not conditioned back by them in the same theme, because they have nothing fixed there to condition you with. It is a normal and common connection, worth naming honestly rather than treating as either a gift or a warning on its own.
Compromise: A Gate That Gets Swallowed
Compromise happens when one person has the full Channel and the other has only one of its two Gates, the same Gate the first person already carries. If you have both Gate 34 and Gate 20, and the other person separately has Gate 20 as well, their Gate does not get to complete anything with yours, because your own Channel was already whole before they arrived. Their contribution in that theme gets absorbed into a Channel that was never waiting for them, which is where the sense of being overlooked or talked over in that specific area can come from. It is not usually experienced as dramatic, more a quiet, recurring friction, a push and pull in one particular theme that can be hard to name until you can see the mechanics behind it.
Spotting Them by Comparing Two Charts
You do not need anything more than both people's Gate activations to work out which connection is running in any given theme. Take one Channel at a time and check both charts against its two Gates. If one person has one Gate and the other person has the other, with neither having both, that is Electromagnetic. If both people independently have both Gates, that is Companionship. If one person has both Gates and the other has neither, that is Dominance. If one person has both Gates and the other has just one of the same two, that is Compromise. Most relationships run all four at once across different Channels, which is why two people can feel an instant pull in one area of life, easy comfort in another, and a low grade friction in a third, all at the same time.
