Line 1 - The Preemptive Strike

Exalted: (Sun) An authority and life force that understands where a connection is heading and can spot a barrier early, clearing it before it hardens into something impassable. This is the fertile power to reach in and create.

Detriment: (Mercury) The same clear-eyed recognition of what stands in the way, paired with a deep indecisiveness about how and when to move. The barrier is seen, and the moment to act slips past while you weigh it.

Line 2 - Shyness

Exalted: (Uranus) A natural and preferred separateness that shields you from the instability union tends to stir up. The drive to bond gets held back on purpose, and your own space stays intact.

Detriment: (Pluto) A shyness that is calculated rather than natural, rooted in deep psychological barriers. Even when you are dynamic in every other setting, this is the pole that quietly restricts how far you will let anyone in.

Line 3 - Openness

Exalted: (Saturn) Identity and security found only by letting the barriers fall. You come to know who you are through union itself, so intimacy with others is what empowers you rather than something added on top.

Detriment: (Mars) Openness sliding into promiscuity and everything that follows it. The drive to be empowered through union keeps reaching for the next connection, and the barriers come down indiscriminately.

Line 4 - Brotherhood/Sisterhood

Exalted: (Venus) Barriers dropped in service of a wider, universal kind of union. The power here comes from intimacy that is not sexual: friendship first, a bond of belonging that includes people rather than pairing off.

Detriment: (Mercury) An intellectual grasp of that ideal that rarely makes it into practice. The idea of universal kinship is clear, but an idea cannot hold the sex drive in check, so the principle and the behaviour part ways.

Line 5 - The Femme Fatale Or Casanova

Exalted: (Sun) You hold the power to use love itself to dissolve any barrier between you and another. There is nothing dark in it here, just a natural magnetism, the pull of your sexuality drawing others warmly toward you.

Detriment: (Uranus) Here the same magnetism can turn, its shadow showing as the gigolo or the adventuress. The pull that could open genuine union instead gets spent as sexual power for its own sake, used to conquer rather than connect.

Line 6 - The One Night Stand

Exalted: (Venus) For you a relationship can be complete whether it lasts a single moment or a lifetime. You carry the capacity for real intimacy regardless of the circumstances, finding wholeness in a connection without needing it to endure.

Detriment: (Mercury) A built-in urge to move on seeks impermanence as a habit, not because the situation calls for it. The drive is toward variety in sex and intimacy, so you keep reaching for the next connection rather than staying.
