Line 1 - Warning
Exalted: (Mars) A fierceness that people can feel without you ever having to use it. The warning is enough. Your will is evident, and respect for your territory follows without a fight.
Detriment: (Moon) A peaceable nature that softens the warning into a request. Without the will behind it, what should have been a clear line becomes a plea, and you end up asking for the respect you should simply have.
Line 2 - Might is Right
Exalted: (Mars) When interference is blatant and keeps coming, you have the will to act decisively and remove it. Here the firmest response is the one that works, and it is entirely legitimate.
Detriment: (Neptune) A tendency to second-guess your own firmness afterwards, regretting the severity even when it was justified. The willpower is there, but the heart sits uneasily with having used it.
Line 3 - Powerlessness
Exalted: (Neptune) Meeting a force you cannot beat and surviving the humiliation of it. When you are not walking your own material path, being overruled from above breaks something in the will, and the temptation is to numb the sting.
Detriment: (Jupiter) Total withdrawal. Rather than risk another defeat, you pull your will off the material path altogether, and the retreat protects your pride at the cost of the ground you might have held.
Line 4 - Strategy
Exalted: (Jupiter) Success won through clarity: reading the opposing forces cleanly and applying your will exactly where it counts. On the practical plane you get things done by matching effort to the real conditions in front of you.
Detriment: (Earth) When you are in the right, a tendency to underestimate your opposition and to follow willpower over instinct. Being correct is not the same as being effective, and forcing it can misfire.
Line 5 - Objectivity
Exalted: (Jupiter) Force used impartially, never in temper. A principled and fair-minded character keeps your will objective, so when you act it is because the situation warrants it and not because you were provoked.
Detriment: (Pluto) A drive to remove the obstacle so strong that only the cause matters and the consequences go unweighed. The will turns personal, and what looked like objectivity is really your own reaction running the show.
Line 6 - Chaos
Exalted: (Pluto) The long war of attrition. You keep pressing a legitimate action against every odd, and when the will has lost touch with what is actually happening, the display of it only adds to the disorder.
Detriment: (Venus) Turning inward when everything outside is in disarray. With the material direction in chaos, you withdraw and put your will to work building order within yourself instead.
