Line 1 - Conservation
Exalted: (Sun) A life-sustaining respect for every part of a process, right down to the small parts nobody looks at. Paying close attention to how a thing actually unfolds is how this instinct gets built in the first place.
Detriment: (Mars) The urge to skip the essentials, which breaks the continuity every time. Underneath it sits a fear that there is not enough potential here to bother with, so the attention never gets paid.
Line 2 - Restraint
Exalted: (Venus) Power held in check so that harmony can grow. You have real force available and you moderate it deliberately, and the transformation that comes out of that restraint tends to benefit everyone, not just you.
Detriment: (Jupiter) Frustration with control, whether it is you doing the controlling or someone doing it to you. From a strong position, the pull is to withdraw from people entirely rather than keep steadily holding the line.
Line 3 - Lack of Continuity
Exalted: (Mercury) At its best, a grounded intelligence keeps you going by constantly reassessing. You are honest about not being sure, and that willingness to weigh things again and again is exactly what carries you through, rather than false certainty.
Detriment: (Jupiter) The shadow leans too hard on proven standards. When conditions shift, clinging to the old rulebook leaves you out of step with what is actually happening, so the very thing that once protected you now holds you back.
Line 4 - Right Is Might
Exalted: (Jupiter) Even when everything is changing, certain principles hold. Your instinct is to keep to them, and to establish right action out in the wider social world where it can do some good.
Detriment: (Saturn) The same principles held inward instead, as personal endurance and inner strength. That works, and it holds, right up until your own security feels threatened from outside, and then the holding gets harder.
Line 5 - Flexibility
Exalted: (Moon) An instinct for adapting through changing times, where a light, surface flexibility becomes a genuine tool: you bend with prevailing conditions and keep going, adjusting to what the moment asks without losing yourself.
Detriment: (Mars) A forceful urge to reject conformity outright, sometimes harshly. The same instinct, turned combative, refuses to adapt at all and burns energy fighting the change rather than moving with it.
Line 6 - Tranquillity
Exalted: (Pluto) An underlying acceptance of change, which may or may not bring you calm. The instinct here is to face impermanence squarely and let transformation happen, rather than brace against something that was always going to move.
Detriment: (Neptune) Impermanence read as proof that nothing means anything. Change experienced this way stirs real fear, and the fear can settle into low mood and a fog where nothing seems worth continuing.
